LARGE IMPRESSIONIST PLEIN AIR LANDSCAPE PAINTING - (CLICK HERE TO SEE MY EBAY AUCTIONS)

This rolling landscape in Irvine, California is near the high school from which my son graduated. As I was painting this developers were moving in heavy equipment to begin construction of a new housing tract that will replace this scenic vista forever. Many of the beautiful landscapes I have painted in this area have now been replaced by housing developments. This is yet another that I captured on canvas just in time.

PLEIN AIR IMPRESSIONIST LANDSCAPE PAINTING (click here to bid)

"DRAMA IN THE SKY" -- What a day for painting! A group of snow white birds crossed the treeline under breathtaking clouds that seemed to reach the heavens. A gentle breeze sweetened the air and the silent landscape seemed untouched by man. These bits of magic find their way into paintings created on location, and for me it’s what plein air painting is all about! Thanks for stopping to look, and enjoy the view! -- Tom Brown.

CALIFORNIA IMPRESSIONIST PLEIN AIR LANDSCAPE PAINTING (click here to bid)

This is one of my favorite spots to paint. Each time I stop here the lighting and colors are different, much like Monet’s series of haystacks done at various seasons and times of day. I painted this entirely on location this morning under hazy skies that muted the colors of the mountains and fields.

I recently posted a panoramic painting on my daily blog showing another part of this landscape done earlier in the year when colors were very different than this; much more vivid. It’s a beautiful spot in Irvine, California not far from my home.

Thanks for stopping to look, and enjoy the view! -- Tom Brown.

“KEYHOLE ROCK” (click here to bid)

This famous landmark cliff in Laguna Beach has an opening at the base forming the shape of a keyhole. The keyhole shape is only visible from a specific vantage point, when rocks and cliff formations properly align. It is a dramatic and beautiful scene that has attracted many artists to paint it over the years and I have taken other artists to this spot for some of my plein air workshops. If you’re ever in the area it’s worth visiting. You can email me for specific directions to the spot if you’re interested in seeing it.

PLEIN AIR LANDSCAPE (click here to bid)

This is one of my favorite places to paint. It shows the foothills not far from my home in Southern California. Every time I arrive here to paint the light and colors are different. It was very overcast when I painted this earlier today, and the colors of the hills are very muted in this piece. On bright sunny days the colors are often unbelievably brilliant compared to how they appeared today. Enjoy the view, and let me know if you like it.

PLEIN AIR LANDSCAPE (click here to bid)

Country roads always beckon me to explore a little farther. A new adventure or beautiful vista always promises to be just around the next bend, and often it’s hard to know when to stop and set up my easel. This time I simply stopped and painted where I was - and let the mystery remain for another trip.

By the way - a big THANK YOU to all who attended my demonstration painting last evening. You made my day, and I enjoyed meeting new people as well as seeing many familiar faces again.

NEIGHBORHOOD SUNRISE (click here to bid)

"VIEW FROM MY STUDIO WINDOW" -- Sunlight the color of honey washed over our neighborhood this morning as I walked into my studio. I put aside my steaming cup of coffee and grabbed canvas and brushes. Working quickly I stroked in key shapes and colors before the shadows could change. And I nailed it!

Many times the astonishing beauty of this view from my studio window has inspired me, always to disappear before I could set up my easel. Today my paints were ready to go - laid out in preparation to work on a private commission. I simply grabbed a fresh canvas and plunged in. The coffee got cold, but the canvas was hot! Tomorrow I’ll do the commission for sure.

COME MEET ME ON DECEMBER 14th, AND WIN A FREE PAINTING! At 6:30 pm, I will be giving a painting demonstration and lecture at the Irvine Fine Arts Center in Irvine, California. It’s free to the public. At the conclusion, my demonstration painting will be raffled off FREE to someone in the audience. Mark your calendar and join me there.
