When I'm painting on location these small panels allow me to explore compositions and get the idea for the painting done quickly while the inspiration is fresh and clear. Often they wind up as quite "frame-worthy" pieces in their own right, like this one. I sometimes use them in the studio to create larger, more detailed pieces.
