This was a demonstration painting done for my students during a class I taught outdoors on location, working directly from nature. This was a view from the Jeffrey Open Space Trail in California.

The soft, restful colors of the distant trees are softened by the morning mist, and they contrast with the bolder colors of the foreground tree.

Capturing these atmospheric effects was part of my lesson for the other artists in my group.
