I have recently been painting itinerant field workers harvesting crops in the area; see my post from April 7th. During their lunch break I approached a group of them and (mostly using sign language) I asked permission to paint this gentleman as he ate his lunch. I actually wanted to do a fairly candid study, but he took it very seriously and struck a rigid pose.

I tried to offer him a money to pose but he adamantly refused. Apparently he took it as a great honor and so I felt compelled to paint him in this “formal” pose. He didn’t move a muscle during the entire time I painted. He had great features with a very rugged look that reminded me of an ex prize fighter. All I was able to learn of him was his name, Tino. Thanks again Tino.
