If you’re a newcomer and you’re feeling timid, here’s a tip I give my new plein air students: LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS. (You won’t find that in any self-help books.)

Nothing serious is at risk. Loosen up and realize you’re simply out there to enjoy yourself. Relax and drink in the moment; absorb the experience with all your senses. It will be reflected in your painting, and your day will be much richer for the experience. Happy painting!
