Creating small paintings on location has advantages at times. During a Plein Air class I taught this weekend, passing clouds created these interesting patterns of light and shadow. We knew these effects would not last long, yet I wanted to capture this feeling in a painting.
A large canvas would have taken far too long. So I pulled out a 5x7 gesso-primed Masonite panel and painted quickly, recording only the elements that were essential to the mood and feeling I wanted to capture. I was pleased with this one; hope you like it too.
