“LIQUID SPARKLE”

At moments like this I need to paint fast or forget it. The sun doesn’t wait and colors fade faster than a politician’s promises.

I set up the small pochade paintbox you’ve seen in many of my YouTube videos. Then grabbed a palette knife to paint this one; it’s the quickest way to clean, decisive colors and speed was critical.

I got it in the nick of time, just before it was gone forever. Now I’ve got these sparkling colors locked in place to enjoy again and again. Hope you like it too.

Creating small paintings on location has advantages at times. During a Plein Air class I taught this weekend, passing clouds created these interesting patterns of light and shadow. We knew these effects would not last long, yet I wanted to capture this feeling in a painting.

A large canvas would have taken far too long. So I pulled out a 5x7 gesso-primed Masonite panel and painted quickly, recording only the elements that were essential to the mood and feeling I wanted to capture. I was pleased with this one; hope you like it too.
