Sketching is just plain fun, and I do it in odd moments every day. Sometimes it pays off unexpectedly.

This sketch of a McCaw parrot is a good example. I did the sketch from life, long ago. It’s been buried among things in the studio until the other day when I rediscovered it.

Like a shot of adrenalin the original inspiration returned and I decided to have a go at it.

I was quite pleased with the resulting painting and it made me glad I’d done the sketch.
