A strong abstract design is often the best foundation for
realistic compositions, and vice versa. The same principles that apply to paintings
of recognizable subjects apply equally well to abstract paintings.
As an example of that I thought it would be interesting
to show the painting below, which was the basis for this abstract.
In the abstract you can easily see how the main shapes of
color and value work together to create an arresting visual. The interaction of
orange and green shapes, the lines of movement down the hills, the dark masses
of the trees, etc.
All the same things that work well in the pumpkin
painting that is shown below also make an effective abstract painting. Thanks
