HOW TO MAKE A FREE POCHADE BOX by TOM BROWN

     BTW – If you have never painted outside and don’t have a pochade box here’s how to make one absolutely free. It’s a great way to test your wings if you’ve never painted outside and don’t have any gear.
     Stop at your local pizza place and ask for a clean box. Then affix your canvas panel to the inside of the lid. Here’s how: Roll up masking tape with the sticky side out and put the tape on the back corners of your panel. Then press it into place on the inside of the lid.
     Affix palette paper or freezer paper to the bottom of the box the same way. You could even use wax paper if necessary. Before leaving home to paint, lay out generous portions of paint along the top of the palette area and you’re good to go.
     When you arrive to paint just open the box and you’re all set. When you’ve finished, simply close the box and your wet painting is safely stored to carry back home.
     The setup you see in the photo below is the one I used on my TV show while being filmed painting Newport Back Bay. I took along a folding chair and held the pizza pochade box in my lap to paint. It works great!
