Comparing a photo of the subject with my painting shows how I’ve emphasized some things, changed others, and eliminated trivial detail.
For example notice how I emphasized texture in the roadway. And the variety of greens I used in trees and bushes, especially in the foliage on the left side of the foreground. These things add sparkle to a picture. And every artist does it differently.
While painting this I was reminded of the song “Sittin’ by the side of the road,” sung by Andie MacDowell in the movie Michael. I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere. Not a car in sight and the solitude was broken only by buzzing of insects and songs of various birds. It was a wonderful way to spend the day. Thanks for looking.
