LANDMARK PLEIN AIR PAINTING BY TOM BROWN
6x8 inch original plein air
oil painting by Tom Brown
Surface texture can help communicate the pure emotion I feel when painting something like this. And that emotion is what this painting is all about.
To imbue the painting with the dramatic light and color of the sunny day, I used thick, juicy strokes of lush oil paints. They create an almost “sculptural” feeling on the surface of the painting.
The result is a painting that always offers something fresh and new to discover each time it is viewed. Take a closer look at the detail image for a better example of this brushwork.
This painting features the famous lifeguard tower on the main beach in Laguna, California. I painted this on location during the Plein Air Workshop I conducted for other artists last Saturday.

I stumbled upon your blog somehow and I'm so glad I did. Your video was concise and clear. I know that I will be taking your e-class after the holidays are over. I can use some help in mastering portraits. I have not done very much work in oils, just acrylics. I'm a sculptor by trade but want to learn all aspects of art.
Thanks so very much for the demonstration.
You can view my blog at http://www.healingwoman.blogspot.com if you want to see my latest painting. I've got a long way to go!
Best,
Cheryl
