NEWPORT BEACH PIER -- PLEIN AIR OIL PAINTING by TOM BROWN

In this painting I was more interested in the "abstract" elements of the scene rather than literal details. I felt it was unnecessary to include specifics because the "big shapes" of color and value were of greater interest to me here, so that's what I focused on. I also wanted to use some rich texture on the surface of the canvas to add greater visual interest and appeal. I think you can see this in the photo of the painting here. I'm showing a photo here of the scene as the camera saw it, for comparison with my artistic interpretation of  the subject.
