CHURCH PLEIN AIR IMPRESSIONIST LANDSCAPE by TOM BROWN

“SUNDAY MORNING SERVICES”
5x7 inch original plein air oil painting
by Tom Brown

This painting was done in a small town up the coast during one of my trips not long ago. It was a quiet Sunday morning when the church bells rang out and drew me to this spot.

A sense of peacefulness and friendship filled the scene as members of the congregation met and welcomed each other. That was the feeling I tried to capture in this painting.

Next Saturday I plan to conduct a Plein Air Workshop at sunset. For a nominal fee it is open to any artist who wishes to join us.

We will meet at a location in Irvine with a wonderful vantage point for the sunset. Free parking and public restrooms are available at this location.

We plan to meet from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Sunset will be at 7:37pm that day, and we should have glorious lighting effects because it is predicted to be sunny the entire day.

Painting at sunset is different than at other times of day. Much of the preparation on your canvas occurs BEFORE the actual color and light happens, and it is important to be fully prepared in advance for the moment when the sun actually sets.

I will walk you through everything you need to know. This should be an exciting and unique plein air class.

If you are interested in attending email me for details at: tombrownstudio@cox.net

I really like this, Tom! It feels very peaceful and the light/dark patterns are nice. Very pleasant.
