The common, ordinary everyday things often make
wonderful subjects for paintings. I think we often overlook the simple things
in life. If we only take the time to look, beauty is all around us. That was
the case here. It has a soft, restful feeling. And a sense of the ordinary
things we take for granted, which can actually be extra-ordinary when viewed in
the right context. I was quite pleased with this one and hope you enjoy it too.

FOG, CALIFORNIA IMPRESSIONIST 8x10 PLEIN AIR by TOM BROWN

This is another time when I was interested in the muted
colors and the softness that the fog created here. I wanted to capture that
feeling on this canvas.
There's something about getting out in the fresh air and
sunshine with my paint box and capturing the sensations I'm experiencing. The
warmth of the sun, the clean fresh air, the sounds of birds; it all seems to
become a part of the painting.

LANDSCAPE WITH TREES, 7x5 INCH ORIGINAL PLEIN AIR OIL PAINTING by TOM BROWN
I painted this as a demonstration for students in a Plein
Air Workshop I taught last weekend. Paintings done on location working directly
from nature always seem to carry a bit of extra magic.
There's something about getting out in the fresh air and
sunshine with my paint box and capturing the sensations I'm experiencing. The
warmth of the sun, the clean fresh air, the sounds of birds; it all seems to
become a part of the painting.
I hope you can feel the same sense of joy in this one
that I felt when painting it.
