Some cloud formations can literally take your breath away. This was one of those times, and that's the feeling I wanted to capture in this painting. I hope you enjoy it.

I was interested in two things in this composition. One was the collection of things that had been accumulated on the window ledge. And the other was the deeply textured wood that had been aged by the elements. When I lived in the rural Midwest I often sketched and painted decaying barns like this on the surrounding farms. They always seemed to have many rich stories to tell through the traces left behind by those who used them.

The soft colors are what caught my eye when I arrived here. A quiet, restful feeling was in the air. And that’s the feeling I wanted to capture in this painting. I hope it brings you a moment’s respite from the hectic pace of everyday life. If so, I’ve achieved my goal with this one.
