VENICE ITALY CANAL by TOM BROWN

This is a 7x5 inch original oil painting on a Masonite panel, showing a canal in Venice Italy. I was intrigued by the architecture and the play of sunlight and shadow on the buildings in this narrow canal. This painting has very thick applications of rich, juicy oil paints, which lends an interesting texture to the surface of the painting.

While visiting Venice I created many paintings of the canals directly from life (en plein air). And I did many other sketches and studies for reference to use back home in my studio. This is one of my favorite paintings of Venice. I hope you enjoy it too.

LARGE PLEIN AIR LANDSCAPE by TOM BROWN

This is a 16x10 inch original oil painting on canvas, created entirely on location as a demonstration for artists attending a plein air workshop I taught. This is a view from Quail Hill in Irvine, California. I was inspired by the sweeping panorama of the landscape with distant mountains in the background, and wanted to capture that effect on canvas.

To create this painting I used a combination of brushes and palette knives. Brushes enable me to put smoothly blended strokes together and create soft, delicate edges. The knife allows me to create bolder applications of thick, juicy oil paint for contrast with the softer brush strokes. The result of combining both techniques creates a rich surface texture on the canvas and injects far more interest into a large painting like this than the exclusive use of a brush would have done. I was very pleased with this painting and I think it will make a nice addition to your collection.

$1.98 Auction FIGURATIVE PORTRAIT STUDY OIL PAINTING by TOM BROWN, ZORN PALETTE

$1.98 Auction, CLICK HERE to bid.
For this study of a man’s head I used a variation of the Zorn palette: white, ochre, alizarin and phthalo green. I substituted green for the black pigment used by Zorn. With this limited palette of colors it is still possible to achieve the effects of a full range of colors and values. This is a small study is on a white 100lb acid free (archival) Bristol card stock that measures 4x5 inches overall. A photo of my palette is shown below.

I was very pleased with this small study and I think it will make a nice addition to your collection.

It's Summer, and time for outdoor Art Fairs. But this Summer I've decided to hold an ONLINE Art Fair rather than showing my work outdoors. This way you don't even need to leave the comfort of your home to browse through my paintings.

And they're all priced at special "Art Fair" prices. So you can get some beautiful new art for your collection and save money too.

I'll even combine shipping for any auctions ending the same day and shipping to the same address.

That will save you even more money, so you might want to place a bid on another small treasure or two while you're here today. Take a moment to browse among my other Art Fair auctions. And thanks for stopping to look; have a great day.
