Here’s something I painted on location a while ago. I never
got around to posting it here; I don’t know why. Something fun: I also shot a video clip as I painted it. Check it
out if you have a moment. You can see it on
YouTube here:
If you’re interested in buying the painting, drop me an

SEALS, SEA LIONS, OCEAN, 5x7 PLEIN AIR ON MASONITE by TOM BROWN
These guys are
really NOISY! I painted this on location down at the ocean. I don’t know
the difference between sea lions and seals, but these were the ones with tiny
ears.
I got as close to their rock as I dared, setting up my easel on some nearby rocks slightly closer to the sandy beach. They’re beautiful, sleek creatures. But when they begin vying for the best position on the rocks it gets really noisy.
I did get wet getting out to the rocks where I put my easel, but it was worth it. As I waded out to the rocks where I set up my painting gear I had to hold it high over my head to keep it dry (along with the painting itself).
I also did some quick pencil sketches as preliminary studies, and I thought it would be interesting to show them here. Everything worked out beautifully, and it was a real kick to come back with this little jewel. I hope you like it too.

BOAT, SEA GULL, ORIGINAL PLEIN AIR by TOM BROWN
This painting is available for direct purchase from my
Etsy store with no competitive bidding. It is one-of-a-kind and when it’s gone,
it’s gone. So don’t let this one get away.

“GULLIBLE” is
a beautiful 6x4-inch original oil painting on a Masonite panel, signed on the
front and ready to frame. I painted this
on location (en plein air) working
directly from the inspiration of Nature. I spotted this seagull perched on the
side of a rowboat that was ironically named “Gullible.” It was too much to
resist; I simply HAD to paint this one.

COLORFUL ROSES, WINDOW, STUCCO WALL 8x10 OIL by TOM BROWN

Color and texture
were the focus of this painting. The colors of the climbing roses, the
vibrant color of the window and the texture of the stucco wall make a wonderful
combination of elements.
For the stucco wall I used liberal quantities of thick,
rich, juicy oil paints that were applied with a palette knife; almost like literally
“stuccoing” the wall. As a result, the actual physical surface of the canvas
has a thick, richly textured surface. This painting really sparkles and will
add a note of lively color to any room of your home.
