I love early morning bicycle rides when the air is sweet and fresh. When the world has not yet awakened. It’s peaceful and invigorating. And when I come across a scene that catches my eye like this did, I grab my paintbox to capture the spirit of the moment. I have a small tripod and paint kit that I carry in saddlebags on my bike for just this sort of experience. I was very pleased with the result of this one. It’s a 6x6 inch oil painting on a hardboard panel.  I hope you like I too. Thanks for looking.

This is a demo I did last evening during a workshop I’m teaching. We began this painting with a different approach than usual, developing it from an abstraction of the composition before gradually letting it evolve into the more specific representation you see here. We have a wonderful group of talented artists in this workshop who are always a joy to work with.
