HISTORIC BUILDING IMPRESSIONIST OIL PAINTING

“HISTORIC ADOBE” by Tom Brown
5X7 inch original oil painting

The Montanez Adobe is listed on the National Historic Register. This house is believed to be one of the original 40 adobes constructed by Indians in 1794 near the famous Mission San Juan Capistrano. It was used for religious services during a period when the mission was inoperative.

This original oil painting was created on location and it is available on eBay. To bid on this painting click the headline above the image. SMALL TOWN BARBER SHOP, IMPRESSIONIST PAINTING

“TOWN BARBER SHOP” by Tom Brown
6X8 inch original oil painting
SOLD

This is a charming little barber shop on the edge of the central square in the town of Orange. I painted this picture in the cool shade of a huge tree in the town plaza. This painting has a sense of small-town friendliness, and a nostalgic feeling of how things were in days of long ago.

URBAN IMPRESSIONIST ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING, FIGURATIVE

“A SLICE OF LIGHT” by Tom Brown
FIGURATIVE DAILY PAINTING
10X8 inch original oil painting
SOLD

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To an artist it can include pristine landscapes or a city crosswalk with skyscrapers forming canyon walls in the distance. I especially liked the shaft of sunlight streaking across the street in this urban scene. I hope you feel my inspiration.

CALIFORNIA IMPRESSIONIST PLEIN AIR PAINTING

“A DRIVE IN THE COUNTRY” by Tom Brown

THANK YOU to all my loyal friends and collectors who came last night for the opening of my new show. I was overwhelmed. What a huge turnout!

It was so nice to talk with many of you whom I hadn’t seen in a long time. I also enjoyed the opportunity to personally meet a number of my faithful collectors for the first time. Thank you for coming and thank you for your support. This meant more to me than you know.

About today’s painting: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To an artist it can include pristine landscapes or cars in traffic, depending on what moves the artist emotionally. This scenic landscape is within a few miles of my home in Southern California, and I was inspired by the light raking across the roadway and the beautiful mountain range in the distance. I hope you feel my inspiration. (Click to headline to bid on eBay.)

CITY LANDSCAPE, URBAN ART IMPRESSIONIST OIL PAINTING

“GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES”
12x16 inch original oil by Tom Brown

As these cars waited for a green light beside a popular Starbucks coffee shop I was reminded of the famous phrase that starts the Indy 500 race each year, “Gentlemen, start your engines!” The entire scene spoke to me from an artistic standpoint, and I especially enjoyed the geometric forms of the building contrasted with natural shapes of trees and mountains. The early morning light added the final touch of magic to this piece.

This painting is featured in my solo show which opens tomorrow in Irvine, California. The exhibit is on display until the end of October. Come have a look if you get the chance.

As always I would love to hear from you. Email me with any questions or comments at tombrownart@gmail.com

CALIFORNIA IMPRESSIONIST PLEIN AIR PAINTING

“THREE GREAT WHITE HERONS” by Tom Brown
6x4 inch original oil, ready to frame
SOLD

This beautiful marshland is a wildlife refuge in Newport Back Bay, where great white herons are among the many protected species. I always enjoy painting at this location and seem to find a new and refreshing vantage point from which to paint every time I visit. In this scene I was particularly interested in the reflections of the snowy white birds in the water and the feeling of peacefulness and serenity.

Just a reminder that my solo show opens this Friday. Check my recent blog posts for details. Hope to see you there.

Urban Skyline Landscape Painting (click here to bid)

“BIRDS ON A WIRE” by Tom Brown
CONTEMPORARY URBAN PAINTING
6x6 ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING
$45, available on eBay

Look closely at the painting and you’ll see the inspiration for the title. This painting is available on eBay. To bid, click the headline above the image.

Since I was painting in a busy urban area I used my compact “laptop” paintbox and worked in the comfort of my car. I thought that would help avoid interruptions. I was wrong.

A local gentleman parked his shopping cart full of worldly possessions next to my car and informed me that he and his one-eyed dog would hang out and keep people from bothering me. As I painted he kept up a running monologue and educated me about everything there is to know in life. True to his word, he DID keep other people from bothering me.

My new-found best friend spotted my camera and even offered to shoot my photo in case I “became famous.” When I finished I thanked him with a bit of cash to buy a good meal or whatever he and his dog needed and we parted, each a bit richer for the experience.

City Landscape– Ready to Hang (click to see my eBay art)

“BIRDS ON A WIRE” by Tom Brown
CONTEMPORARY URBAN PAINTING
6x6 – READY TO HANG

SOLD

This one was purchased as I was posting this blog, but I wanted to show it anyway. It’s another in my new City Series. As with yesterday’s painting, I used my compact “laptop” paintbox and painted this while sitting in the comfort of my car. That enabled me to work in the hustle and bustle of the city without interruptions from onlookers (most of the time).

Watch for others in coming days, along with some interesting stories that happened while I was painting them.
